Why I am Pro Israel

A “News and Views with Pastor Sawatzky” Segment:

Israel will never be controlled by outside ideologies. It is not a question of arrogance, but of a very long-standing ingrained doctrine that they should be in full control of the territory God had originally given them.

Most of us who read this kind of material are very well acquainted with such verses as, Ge 12:2  And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

Ge 12:3  And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Ge 12:7  And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.

This was the unconditional Abrahamic covenant and was given by God without any request from anyone.

It is interesting that God would choose someone from beyond the river Euphrates upon whom He would bestow the promise of blessing and protection from all others in the whole world. Abram came from Mesopotamia and became the father of the nation of Israel, which was yet future when this covenant was made.

It was his grandson, Jacob who was to bear 13 children, 12 of whom were sons. It was a mixed and somewhat dysfunctional family, but God designated a territory for each of the sons.

God had told Moses that the sons of Jacob would have a unique place in the world. Ex 19:6, “And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.”

Following the forty year trek in the wilderness, God’s new man, Joshua was responsible to lead them into the land promised them by God and execute orders to take control of all the promised territory.

The names and nature of Jacob’s sons are given in Genesis 49. Each of them was to become a tribal leader with a prescribed territory.

Jos 1:4, “From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.”

Jos 1:13, “Remember the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying, The LORD your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.”

The Book of Joshua describes the gory detail of ethnic purging and occupation of land, which had been inhabited by others who were squatters in God’s eyes. Men, women and children were to be removed by any and all means so that effective occupation and ownership of territories could be claimed. Both Joshua and Caleb gave leadership in the battle for the land and their efforts were finally realized under the able leadership and influence of David’s son, Solomon.

So then, in the first place, the land of Israel was given by God and taken by obedient tribal leaders to settle and manage the land.

Hamas, Hezbollah and their Iranian, Syrian and Palestinian support base will not win against Israel. They will be constant irritants and damaging as Israel seeks to advance in it policy and technological development. Russia will also take an active interest in opposition to Israel, but according to Bible prophecy in Ezekiel chapter 37-39 will also fail dismally as God intervenes directly to stop the Russian Bear from any victory in the God promised and God protected land. It is clearly a place of sacred trust since the whole idea of Israel and a land was God’s.

Not only did God give a land promise to the nation, but from this called out people of priests, kings and a holy nation, God promised to send His Son the Saviour of the world and the Deliverer of Israel from the enemies surrounding them.

After many years of dormancy and defeat, Israel has arisen once again. The Balfour Declaration which initiated the right of land and government finally came to fruition in 1948. The Sanhedrin, which disbanded in 417 AD in Tiberias, recently was activated for official function in the land, again in Tiberias. Israel now has a land, and a functioning legal court, which conforms to the function in biblical times when Moses appointed 70 elders to help with the deliberations of issues in the tribal relationships and legal disputes.

They are waiting for the day when they can rebuild the temple. The Great Synagogue, even though a very Jewish religious structure is not the temple and cannot be confused as the temple. The temple will be rebuilt on the site it originally stood. There it will serve a brief purpose until the greater enemy of Israel will once again cause havoc as he breaks the confirmed agreement with Israel.

Israel will finally submit to the authority and Messiahship of Jesus, the Christ Who was prophesied on the Old Testament and described in the New. His Virgin birth, sinless life, atoning death and victorious resurrection are all described as an historical event affecting the entire world.

God had said to Abram approximately 3800 years ago, Genesis 12:2, “And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

3  And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.”

God gave Abraham and his offspring a land, the oracles of God, according to Rom 3, and the Messiah. He will protect them through all the opposition they face now and in the unprecedented persecution they will face under the all out attack of the Antichrist and his affiliates. He will send His Son again to convert them and bring them to a time of unprecedented peace in the land and will reign over them for the promised one thousand year reign and then usher them into the eternal state of peace and safety.

Former President Jimmy Carter has not spoken well of Israel.

“Barack Obama's big speech on Israel is now over, and as expected, the candidate made no secret of his support and dedication to the special relationship between the U.S. and Israel. "My view is that the United States' special relationship with Israel obligates us to be helpful to them in the search for credible partners with whom they can make peace, while also supporting Israel in defending itself against enemies sworn to its destruction," were Obama's words to Haaretz last week. Today, he sounded as strong as Clinton, as supportive as Bush, as friendly as Giuliani. At least rhetorically, Obama passed any test anyone might have wanted him to pass. So, he is pro-Israel. Period.” Haaretz-Israel.

President Obama is untested in the matter of Israel, but for now says he is in their defense.

I am not pro-Israel because a President is against them or in favour of them. I am pro-Israel, because God is Pro-Israel and I choose to be friends with God’s friends.

He promised a blessing to all who would bless His special friend, Abraham and curse all who would curse His special friend, Abraham.

I choose blessing and favour rather than cursing and disfavour.
